About Brandy Pugh
After enduring a 33-month battle with Leukemia, Brandy Pugh died March 15th, 1999 at Swedish Medical Center, the place of his birth in 1966.

Brandy grew up in Redmond, attending Ben Rush Elementary and Rose Hill Junior High. Moving onto Lake Washington High School, he was the starting catcher his junior season for the Kangaroos' 1994 KingCo champs team. In his senior season, he helped lead the Kangs to the state semi-finals. Graduation in 1985 found Brandy lettering 2 years in both football and baseball, along with the vote of Most Inspirational his senior year.

Brandy played Senior Babe Ruth summer ball for Wick Homes in 1983. The next year he plaed with Washington AWArds and they went to the Western Regionals. In 1985, Brandy played for Chaffey and advanced to the Babe Ruth state tournament.

After one year of playing baseball for Bellevue Community College in 1986, Brandy spent a year in football as a wide receiver for Wenatchee Valley College. He moved on to Portland State where he returned to playing only baseball in 1990 and 1991. He graduated that spring, after which Brandy returned to Kirkland and began coaching for Rose Hill Junior High. There he worked as an assistant football coach in 1991-92, head baseball coach in 1992-93 and head football coach in 1994-99. During that time, along with coaching football, Brandy worked as an assistant baseball coach of O'Dea High School in 1994 and Eastside Catholic in 1995, then began as head baseball coach for Mercer Island High School in 1996.

On June 6th, 1996, shortly after his first baseball season as head coach at Mercer Island, Brandy was diagnosed with Leukemia.

In February of 1997, he received a non-related bone marrow transplant then followed with treatments at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Virginia Mason Medical Center. Brandy continued to coach at Rose Hill and was free of cancer until December 19th, 1998.

Cancer was discovered during a return check-up and just a few weeks later, he entered Swedish Medical Center on January 4th. Dearly loved by his players and peers and by his family, Brandy lost his battle with cancer at 32 years of age, March 15th, 1999.
